Where are the best lodges with hot tubs in Staffordshire?

Most of the county's hot tub properties cluster in the north-east, between Leek and the Derbyshire border. That's no accident. It's where the Peak District spills into Staffordshire, and where you'll get the view, the walks and the dark skies that make a soak worth having. If you'd rather be close to the theme park, the Potteries or Cannock Chase, there are great picks there too.

A lodge or log cabin usually means single-storey timber living, decking right outside the door and a quieter, woodland feel. Cottages and barn conversions give you more rooms, wood burners and space for bigger groups. Check the small print, as these rules come straight from the owners' listings:

• Wood-fired tubs need lighting and feeding. At The Lazy Squire, fuel for the first light is included and extra costs more.
• Hot tub hours can be set. Pipistrelle asks guests to use theirs between 7am and 11pm.
• Age rules apply at some lodges. Kipling Lodge takes no stag or hen parties and no group or couple bookings under 25.
• Christmas is often week-only. The Farmhouse near Biddulph only takes bookings of a week or more over the Christmas period.
• Prices move with the season and school holidays, so check your dates on each listing above.

Peak District Staffordshire hot tub cottages: walks from the door

Pull your boots on early. The Staffordshire side of the Peak District is quieter than the Derbyshire honeypots, with some of the park's best walking.

The Roaches and Hen Cloud

A gritstone escarpment that's officially in Staffordshire, The Roaches rise above Upper Hulme, a few miles north of Leek. One popular circular route is about 4.1 miles and takes 1.5 to 2 hours, climbing Hen Cloud first and then running along the edge past Doxey Pool to the trig point at 505 metres. Add Lud's Church, a deep mossy chasm in the woods, and you've got a full day.

• Park in the free laybys on Roach Road, and arrive early: fines are issued outside the marked bays.
• Keep dogs on leads, especially near the nesting peregrines.
• Roaches Tea Rooms and Ye Olde Rock Inn are nearby for afterwards.

Tittesworth Reservoir

Just outside Leek, Tittesworth is the easy one, with woodland and water views the whole way round.

• About 4.5 miles, taking around two hours, with a few short climbs
• The Watermark Restaurant and Cafe and a playground for ages 2 to 15

The Manifold Way

This one's perfect for families. The Manifold Way follows the old Leek and Manifold Light Railway for about 8 miles from Waterhouses to Hulme End, and it's surfaced and fairly level, so buggies and wheelchairs manage it fine. You'll pass right under Thor's Cave, 250 feet above the track, and Wetton Mill halfway along is the place for cake.

Days out near your Staffordshire hot tub lodge

Stay around Leek and you've got two heritage railways on your doorstep.

Climb aboard the Rudyard Lake Steam Railway and you'll trundle along the eastern shore of a 2-mile lake built in 1797 to feed the Caldon Canal, with sailing boats sliding past. John Lockwood Kipling and Alice Macdonald liked it so much they named their son Rudyard after it! The railway lists return tickets at £5.50 for adults and £3.50 for children. There's free parking at Rudyard Station, and well-behaved dogs are welcome on leads.

Down the valley at Kingsley and Froghall, the Churnet Valley Railway runs steam and diesel trains and has recently reopened its line towards Leek. Its Polar Express trains run from 7 November to 23 December 2026, so get booking early.

Then there's Alton Towers, 7.5 miles from the Waterhouses cottage and 9.3 miles from Parlour Barn on the edge of Leek.

Head south and the scenery changes completely. Cannock Chase covers about 26 square miles of heath, pine forest and valleys, with plenty of nature to explore. The National Trust's Shugborough Estate, with its hall, walled garden and 900 acres of parkland, sits on its northern edge, and it's a short drive from The Lazy Squire.

Hot tub lodges near Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent

Looking for a lodge with a hot tub near ST5? Two good picks for the Potteries sit just across Stoke-on-Trent from Newcastle-under-Lyme.

In Blythe Bridge, 6.9 miles from Stoke, Pipistrelle is a single-storey barn conversion for four with two en-suite bedrooms and a hot tub in its private garden. Robin's Rest next door sleeps two. North of the city, The Farmhouse near Biddulph sleeps eight, takes pets and has a secluded hot tub and an open fire.

Trentham is an easy drive from both. Visit the Monkey Forest there and you'll walk among 140 Barbary macaques roaming free through 60 acres of woodland, the largest primate habitat in the UK. The gardens on the Trentham Estate are right next door, so you can make a full day of it.
